Forget Anti-Aging!! Let’s Talk About Aging Well Instead!!

Jul 22, 2026

Can we have a little heart-to-heart?

There's a phrase I see everywhere these days, especially when it comes to women in midlife.

Anti-aging.

It's plastered across wrinkle creams, supplements, fitness programs, facials, and just about every ad that promises to make us look 20 years younger.

And every time I hear it, I cringe just a little.

Not because I'm against taking care of yourself—I love a good moisturizer as much as the next woman—but because I think we've been sold the wrong message.

Here's the truth...

There is nothing wrong with getting older.

In fact, it's a privilege.

Here's Why I Don't Like the Term "Anti-Aging"

Think about it.

As I'm writing these words, I'm aging.

As you're reading them, you're aging.

Every heartbeat, every breath, every sunrise means we're moving forward in life. That's not a problem to solve. That's proof we're still here.

So why are we spending so much energy trying to fight something that's completely natural?

When we hear the words anti-aging, it quietly tells us:

  • Getting older is bad.

  • Wrinkles should be hidden.

  • Gray hair should be covered.

  • Softness should be erased.

  • We should somehow pretend we're not the age we've earned.

Friend, I'm not interested in spending my life fighting reality.

I'd rather spend it living well.

Aging Isn't the Enemy. Neglect Is.

Let's clear something up.

I'm all for taking care of yourself.

Moisturize your skin.

Get enough sleep.

Drink your water.

Take care of your health.

Absolutely.

But the real problem isn't aging.

The real problem is neglecting the amazing body that carries you through life.

Neglecting your muscles.

Neglecting your balance.

Neglecting your joints.

Neglecting your heart.

Neglecting your brain.

Those are the things that can steal your independence—not birthdays.

We can't stop the calendar.

But we can absolutely influence how we experience the years ahead.

Movement Is One of the Greatest Gifts You Can Give Your Future Self

I often say that exercise won't stop aging...

But it can certainly slow the roll.

No, it won't magically make you 25 again.

Honestly, who wants to be 25 again? I kind of like the wisdom I've picked up along the way.

What movement can do is help you age stronger.

It helps you:

  • Build and protect muscle.

  • Keep your bones healthier.

  • Support your heart.

  • Improve your balance.

  • Keep your joints moving.

  • Protect your brain.

  • Stay independent longer.

  • Feel more confident in your own body.

That's not anti-aging.

That's aging well.

That's living the kind of life where you can still carry your groceries, travel without worrying if your body can keep up, and get down on the floor with the grandkids—and maybe even get back up without making all those interesting little noises we laugh about.

Midlife Changes Everything... But Not in a Bad Way

If you're over 40, you've probably noticed your body has started sending you little reminders.

Your knees speak up after sitting too long.

Your back has opinions after a road trip.

You don't bounce back from poor sleep quite like you used to.

Hormones shift.

Muscle naturally declines if we don't use it.

Energy changes.

That's not failure.

That's biology.

Your body isn't betraying you.

It's simply asking for a different kind of care than it needed twenty years ago.

And that's okay.

Stop Exercising to Look Younger. Start Moving to Live Better.

Somewhere along the way, we made exercise all about shrinking ourselves.

Smaller waist.

Smaller jeans.

Smaller number on the scale.

I'd love for us to think bigger than that.

Move because you want to:

  • Carry your suitcase without asking for help.

  • Walk through the airport without searching for the nearest chair.

  • Travel.

  • Garden.

  • Dance.

  • Hike.

  • Play with your grandkids.

  • Get off the floor with confidence.

  • Feel strong when life asks something of you.

That's a much better goal than fitting into last decade's jeans.

What If We Stopped Trying to Fix Ourselves?

The beauty industry loves the word fix.

Fix your wrinkles.

Fix your neck.

Fix your arms.

Fix your weight.

Can I offer a different word?

Support.

Instead of asking:

"What's wrong with my body?"

Try asking:

  • How can I support my joints today?

  • How can I strengthen my muscles this week?

  • What kind of movement would help me feel better?

  • What can I do today that my future self will thank me for?

That tiny shift changes everything.

Movement becomes an act of kindness instead of punishment.

And your body stops feeling like a project that needs fixing.

You Don't Need More Willpower. You Need More Consistency.

One of the biggest myths I hear is this:

"If I can't work out for an hour, it's not worth it."

Oh, friend...

Please don't let perfection steal your progress.

Ten minutes counts.

Eleven minutes counts.

A walk around the block counts.

Stretching while watching television counts.

Doing a few squats while dinner is in the oven counts.

Everything counts.

Your body doesn't keep score based on perfection.

It responds to consistency.

Every little bit of movement is another deposit into your future health account.

This Is What Aging Beautifully Looks Like

When I look at women who inspire me, I don't think,

"Wow...she looks 25."

I think...

She looks vibrant.

She looks capable.

She looks joyful.

She moves with confidence.

She has stories written across her face and wisdom in her eyes.

She looks like someone who has lived.

And I think that's beautiful.

My Invitation to You

The next time you see the words anti-aging, I hope you'll pause for just a second.

Instead of thinking about fighting time, think about supporting yourself.

Ask one simple question:

"What's one thing I can do today to take care of my body?"

Maybe it's a short walk.

Maybe it's stretching for five minutes.

Maybe it's drinking another glass of water.

Maybe it's joining me for an 11-minute workout.

It doesn't have to be perfect.

It just has to happen.

Because here's what I know after decades of helping women move better:

Exercise won't stop you from getting older.

But it can absolutely help you get older with more strength...

more freedom...

more confidence...

and a whole lot more joy.

And if you ask me...

That's far more powerful than anything labeled "anti-aging."

So let's stop trying to turn back the clock.

Let's make the years ahead some of the strongest, healthiest, and happiest yet.

Keep moving—not because you're trying to erase your age, but because you're honoring the incredible woman you've become.

You've earned every year. Now let's make every one of them count.

You are Freaking Fabulous!!
